ENNIS - A stout snowpack and a wet spring have filled Madison County’s waterways and greened pastures to the point that some residents have said they haven’t seen things so verdant, so lush in nearly 50 years.
As a result, thoughts of last year’s drought and the fires it sparked are far, far away for most people.
VIRGINIA CITY – The Montana Heritage Commission (MHC) recently released a report that tallied the economic impacts it and the visitors attracted to its four historic properties, two local, produced during 2017.
The numbers are pretty incredible.
NEVADA CITY – On Friday afternoon, June 22, Andy Thomas and Darlene Tussing stood at the Nevada City train station staring down at three large maps laid out on the bench in front of the station.
The maps contain an idea they share for a public multi-use trail that would connect Nevada City and Alder.
HARRISON - Last week and earlier into this week, the Dillon Field office of the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM) completed an “interdisciplinary assessment” of the Rochester watershed.
SHERIDAN - An undertaking that began in March of 2017 in Sheridan should be finished and open by the end of the summer.
The new Ruby Valley Hospital and Medical Center is quickly nearing its completion, and staff toured their new facility on Friday, June 21.
TWIN BRIDGES – The fence between Four Rivers Fishing Company, owned by Chris Knott and Seth McLean, and Jeff and Patti Walker’s property was again an issue at Twin Bridges town council meeting on Tuesday evening, June 12.
SHERIDAN – Despite all the water coming off the mountains from snowpack and abundant spring rainfall, just one of Sheridan’s five town water wells is producing water. As a result, water projects were front and center on the Sheridan town council’s June 12 meeting.
VIRGINIA CITY – A solution may be in sight for the Stonewall-Dudley building’s structural problems and safety issues, if the town, the building’s owners and the Montana Heritage Commission can come together and work on its future.
ENNIS - Three vehicles were involved in a head-on collision just north of Ennis on Monday afternoon, June 11.
Montana Highway Patrol, the Madison County Sheriff’s department, Montana Department of Transportation and the Ennis and Harrison Fire Departments responded to the collision around 4:30 p.m.
ENNIS – At about 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, Elaine Forsberg of Ennis dropped her cast ballot into one of the two blue boxes on the table at the town hall. Two unused ballots slid into the other blue box. Then Forsberg received her “I voted” sticker, which she wore proudly.
