ENNIS -- Tanner Wood, an Ennis High School senior, quarterback of the school’s 2016 – and almost 2017 – championship football squad, has caught the eye of two newspapers as well as hometown Mustang followers.
Madison County’s high school athletes are seeing the end of spring sports season. Track and field teams were in Anaconda for the Top 8 meet on May 3, while the Mustang golf team ventured to Three Forks.
Golf
All Madison County track and field athletes participated in the Manhattan Christian Invitational on April 28, with many seeing success and even qualifying for the state meet.
According to head coach Chris McCown, the Ennis Mustangs hosted their first varsity meet at Madison Meadows Golf Course on April 28. “It was great weather and around 51 golfers, from both Class B and C attended,” said McCown.

Students were back on course last week as they took to Livingston, Belgrade and Big Sky for meets. The Ennis Mustang golf team finally hit the greens and saw success, according to head coach Chris McCown. “There was no wind!” laughed McCown.

Whether you believe in the actions of a marmot named Punxsutawney Phil, or you think Mother Nature is just taking her course, winter has extended its stay in the state – much to the demise of Madison County’s spring athletes.
A 1991 Ennis High School graduate has coached four Colorado boys high school basketball teams to state championships.
Student athletes are already back in action and prepping for spring sports. Track and field and golf athletes started practicing last week and are looking forward to successful seasons. Here’s a preview of what to expect this season on either the track, field or course!
Twin Bridges
Mountain One Volleyball club won the Electric City Tournament in Great Falls,
their first tournament of the club season, on March 18. They played a morning
round of pool play then competed in the Gold Bracket and took first place.
