DILLON – On April 4 state Representative Ray Shaw received the Patriot Award from Major General Matt Quinn at the Montana Youth Academy Challenge in Dillon. The Adjutant General’s Patriot Award was bestowed upon Shaw during a ceremony.
ENNIS – The Ennis town commission heard a request from Ennis Senior Center president Lynn Foreman and treasurer Bob Welna at their monthly meeting on Thursday, April 11, to continue the funding the town pledged four years ago, which expired at the end of 2018.
SHERIDAN – You know it’s spring when the baseballs start coming out, and in Sheridan, Little League is moving ahead, gearing up for baseball season, which began April 13, the town council learned at its Monday, April 8, meeting.
TWIN BRIDGES – Twin Bridges storm water, sidewalk and curb plans were front and center again at the town council’s Tuesday, April 9 meeting.
BIG SKY—Madison County commissioners Ron Nye and Jim Hart as well as Gallatin County’s Joe Skinner, Scott MacFarlane and Don Seifert attended the biannual joint commission meeting hosted at Big Sky Resort on Wednesday, April 10, drawing a crowd of more than 100 people to spectate and listen.
ENNIS — A 17-year-old male was attacked by a bear south of Ennis on Sunday. He fortunately survived the attack with relatively minor injuries.
The teen and his family were visiting their cabin in Wolf Creek, about 30 miles south of Ennis, on the east side of the Madison Valley. He was out looking for shed antlers in the area.
MONTANA – For nearly two decades, the “Hate Map” project for the Alabama-based Southern Poverty Law Center has tracked hate groups across the nation, championing lawsuits that combat institutional racism and other forms of inequality, such as homophobia, white nationalism and anti-immigrant leanings.
ENNIS – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) will close the Varney Bridge Friday, March 29 as work begins to replace the bridge. The bridge crosses the Madison River on Varney Road (S-249) approximately eight miles south of Ennis in Madison County. Construction is expected to be completed in December.

VIRGINIA CITY—At their weekly meeting on Tuesday, March 19, the Madison County commissioners approved the institution of a reimbursement fee for ranchers who legally harvest a wolf in protection of their livestock.
SHERIDAN—And just like that, the old Ruby Valley Hospital building in Sheridan is gone.
