Mustang football season ends in second round of playoffs
“A great group of athletes”
The Ennis Mustangs have been looking forward to hitting it off against the St. Ignatius Bulldogs for weeks now. We started off on top with a 47 yard touchdown pass from Clintin Buyan to Nicholas Johnson to go up 6 to 0. We then added to that with another pass (51 yards) to Johnson. Adding to the lead Buyan completed another 4 yard pass to Johnson making the score 20 to 0. The Bulldogs responded with a touchdown, but the Mustangs were not done scoring in the first half. Buyan completed a 54 yard touchdown to Andrew Beardsley making the halftime score 27-8. With a comfortable lead the Mustangs knew it was not over. The Mustangs struggled to score in the second half with some penalties against them and the Bulldogs coming out firing. The 4th quarter buzzer rang and the Mustangs had a sudden halt to their season with a defeated score of 36-27. The Bulldogs will host Fairview this Saturday in the Semi-finals.
Season overview:
The Ennis Mustangs finished their season with 8 wins and 2 losses. Coach Speck said, “This is a great group of student athletes. They had their heads in it all year and they got better each and every week. The four seniors are going to be greatly missed, but they showed these underclassmen what class, victory, and football is all about. Thank you to the seniors for all of their hard work. Also, thank you to all 32 players of the football team for staying low all season and chopping their feet. This intensity made the 2022 season a pleasure.” The Mustangs are looking forward to the 2023 season and cannot wait to reload and bring the noise next season.
