Montanan of the Week
Sheridan School’s Micheal Wetherbee honored for commitment to student success
Sheridan Schools Superintendent Micheal Wetherbee is once again seeing his name in lights. U.S. Sen. Steve Daines named Wetherbee the “Montanan of the Week.” Daines' Montanan of the Week program highlights people doing good for their schools and communities throughout the state, and a statement of recognition is recorded in the Congressional Record.
Wetherbee's previous accolades include Montana Association of Agricultural Educators Administrator of the Year, and the Montana Association for Career and Technical Education Administrator of the Year in December 2017.
In his statement for the Congressional Record, Daines highlighted Wetherbee’s commitment to students’ success through the school’s STEAM project, and varying student agriculture, business and technology programs. “When STEM and STEAM learning were just getting a foothold in education, Mike wanted to be sure the school would be on the frontlines,” Daines’ statement reads. “With buy-in from the community, Sheridan Schools are becoming well known for putting kids on a path to success through hands-on learning and experiences … Mike understands what service to the community means, and is doing it every day by building up the students in Sheridan Schools.”
Wetherbee said his hope is to supply students with tools for success after they leave Sheridan Schools. “We have done a great job of putting the most current in technology and curriculum in the hands of our kids,” he said.
While the recognition is nice, Wetherbee remains focused on his school and staff. “I am always fired up when our school gets a word in the paper, as it reinforces that we are doing a great job of educating kids in Sheridan," he said. "While not everything is perfect, and it never will be, we do have an awesome school and we will continue to try to be a leader in academics and technology.”
Wetherbee invites parents and community members to stop in and check out all of the exciting activities at Sheridan Schools.
