Sheridan Panthers put up 62 points in front of homecoming crowd

The Sheridan Panthers defeated Lame Deer 62-0 in front of a homecoming crowd on Sept. 26. The Panthers were led by junior Briggs Munns who accounted for three touchdowns, two on punt returns and one receiving and Logan McDougal who had seven tackles.

“I was happy with how my guys showed up - ready to play in all facets of the game,” said head coach Tyler Lott. “Scoring with special teams, defense, and offense is a recipe for success and that is what we did Friday night. I was also happy with a defensive shutout. The young fellas did well once they had their opportunity to play and it was a good showing all the way around.”

Sophomore Charlie Larsen rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown and was credited for two sacks. Junior Tanner Christiansen returned an interception for a touchdown and threw for one as well. He went three for three on the night when the Sheridan passing game was rarely used but efficient. The team completed four out of five passes for 42 yards and a touchdown.

Quarterback Brandon Foss scored the team’s only touchdown. He had 50 yards rushing to go with 126 yards passing. Senior Brock Sneed and sophomore Tatum Todd also contributed to the defensive effort with five and four solo tackles.

“The team learned that in order to beat great teams, there cannot be missed assignments,” continued Speck. “This is a great learning opportunity. It was the most black and white version of adversity that a team can face. We now know that we need to keep our nose to the grindstone and keep grinding away. This group of student athletes WILL bounce back and work harder than they have for the first 4 weeks of games.”

Next up for the Mustangs is a trip to face winless Lame Deer on friday Oct. 3. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
