Eagles swoop in on the Mustangs
Manhattan Christian volleyball beats Ennis
Manhattan Christian slammed Ennis on the court Sept. 25. Their spikes dove with aggression into the gaps in the Mustangs’ formation. Somewhere in the third set, the Mustangs started filling the gap better. The hard spikes from the Eagles continued to be a struggle, but Ennis had redeeming moments.
Ennis senior Landri Paladichuk stepped up to the challenge. From the serving line she earned Ennis its first three points in the second set. Sophomore Marlyssa Ledgerwood proved her spot on Ennis’ varsity squad, leading the Mustangs in kills. She halted one of Manhattan Christian’s slammed returns at the net in the second period, the sole block for Ennis. The score was tight for the start of the second set, but the Eagles soared to the win.
The Mustangs dug deep throughout the match. Ledgerwood, Olivia Lohrenz and Shae Lovett each lead Ennis in digs. Manhattan Christian took an early lead in the third set. Paladichuk’s momentum built as the match went on. She returned the ball in one of the last plays of the game with an intense spike.
Manhattan Christian left Ennis, winning in three sets. The Mustangs will take on the Falcons in Twin Bridges Oct. 2.
