Brummie Boggus’s return to state wrestling cut short by an illegal throw
Boggus returned to wrestling three weeks ago after shoulder surgery resulting from getting stomped by a bull at a rodeo in Townsend in August
Ennis High School junior Brummie Boggus was put into concussion protocols after an illegal throw in the first round of the state tournament and was required to medically forfeit his remaining matches at the state tournament. Boggus, who finished third at State his freshman year and missed his sophomore year due to ACL surgery, returned to full participation just three weeks ago after having reconstructive shoulder surgery as the result of an injury suffered during a rodeo in Townsend in August.
Boggus began his wrestling career at six years old and joined the Three Forks team his freshman year as part of a co-op agreement between the two schools. Despite having taken a couple years off from wrestling to focus on bull riding, Boggus won the district championship and earned a third place finish at state his freshman year.
He suffered an ACL tear his sophomore year that required him to miss the wrestling season. Upon being cleared to ride last summer, he returned to the rodeo circuit and was stepped on by a bull requiring surgery that installed a plate and screws into his shoulder. He returned to full participation in wrestling just three weeks before the state tournament and managed to qualify.
Boggus is expected to return to wrestle his senior year.
“I’m looking forward to hopefully having a healthy season and getting on the podium one last time,” said Boggus.
