Sheridan School Read Across America

The Sheridan School held their annual Read Across America celebration on Thurs., March 1. The day was filled with several activities to share and promote the joy of reading. Sheridan High School juniors and seniors read a Dr. Seuss book in each of the K-3 classrooms and visited grades 4-6 to share and recommend favorite titles they loved as grade schoolers. All students and staff enjoyed Dr. Seuss cake after lunch thanks to the kitchen staff and Stephanie Haag. Mrs. Haag volunteered her time to decorate the cakes using the Dr. Seuss book, Oh, the Places You’ll Go, as the theme. Elementary classrooms, K-6, took part in a Drop Everything and Read session in the afternoon. Numerous students participated in a costume contest by dressing as their favorite book characters. The prizes for fantastic character costumes went to: K-Eagen Cordingley (mouse—If You Give a Mouse a Cookie); 1st Grade-Kora Hardy (a scarecrow); 2nd Grade-Regan McNeal (Ranger Rick); 3rd Grade-Bella Cash-Rich & Mylee Schrapps (Pippi Longstocking); 4th Grade-Haze Hardy (hobbit—Lord of the Rings); 5th Grade-Tristan Stout (Greg—Diary of a Wimpy Kid); 6th Grade-Kialar Maddison & Katie Hamilton (Mad Hatter and Cheshire Cat—Alice in Wonderland).
