Sheridan FCCLA "Be The Change"
For FCCLA, Rachel Zielinski of the Sheridan FCCLA chapter chose the project ‘Focus on Children’. She decided to work with 6th graders to improve their self-esteem. Rachel went into the 6th grade class and presented a PowerPoint and did activities with them. The topics taught were how to improve self-esteem, how many students have low self-esteem on an average, and what happens to most students with low self-esteem that isn’t eventually fixed. One of the activities was making paper flowers. This activity involved writing down good things about themselves on strips of paper and folding them to make a flower shape. The second activity was sending students up to the board and having the other students write kind things about that person. The person at the board turned around and saw the good things that their peers thought of them.
