HOLDUP ON THE HILL
Virginia City snared for several hours
At 6:47 p.m. on Jan. 24 Madison County Dispatch called the Virginia City Rural Fire Department for traffic control concerning road blockage on Highway 287 near Virginia City. A semi had jackknifed on the snow and ice-covered surface as it was heading towards Ennis on the VC Hill; partially blocking multiple lanes of traffic.
Volunteers Eric Barsness, Dude Erdall, Jeff Gerhardt, Toni James, Don Mefford and Roger Williams of the VCRFD along with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, Montana Highway Patrol, two snowplows from the Montana Department of Transportation and Whitehall Truck and Tow all responded to the situation.
Cooperation of all involved cleared the road within hours
