Pollinator garden proposed for neighborhood roundabout
The Town of Ennis Commissioners discussed a request made on behalf of the Madison Conservation District (MCD) to change the North 40 subdivision roundabout into a pollinator garden. The area was built in spring 2022, and while it was initially intended to be a garden, the plan was ultimately discarded due to issues of high wind, wildlife and a challenging rocky soil type.
In order to overcome these challenges, the MCD plans to include a wildlife deterrent fence, ground cover to protect from the wind, and improving the irrigation system. The new garden would provide a habitat for local pollinator species, a community garden for residents, and an aesthetically pleasing addition to the entryway of the neighborhood. The initial budget plan has offers from local businesses donating much of the fencing materials to deter antelope and deer, as well as pollinator seeds from MCD.
Approval is pending on existing funds available from the North 40 subdivision budget, as well as gaining further information regarding the soil type.
