Volunteer spotlight

Alice Gilbert is no stranger to the Ruby Valley. Born in Dillon, Gilbert’s roots dive deep into the history of the area after her great-grandmother homesteaded here long ago. Having moved around some as young girl, Gilbert always considered Sheridan home and still does. 

Gilbert has been active with the Sheridan Senior Citizens’ Center on and off for 31 years, helping to prepare meals, deliver meals and keep the seniors of the community company. “I love working with all of the girls and I love all my seniors,” Gilbert said of her time at the center. 

The Senior Citizens’ Center serves between 45 and 50 meals, Monday through Friday, including their meals on wheels delivery. With seniors making up for a large portion of Sheridan’s community, Gilbert said it feels good to give back.

“It’s very rewarding and to see the smiles on their faces,” she said. “And it’s always fun to pick one Lester Braach!”

Gilbert said the rewarding feeling to give and care for the community is enough to keep her coming back year after year. “I just love doing it,” she said.

While helping out at the center and being with her family keeps her busy, Gilbert spends any free time she can get crafting. “I’m a crafter!”
