Volunteer Spotlight
Madison Byways: Giving back through a Sandy Trail
Finding someone to highlight for our volunteer feature is always challenging for me. Not because of the lack of volunteers in the county, but the humbleness that all my spotlights seem to have. As a young professional, figuring out a balance between a work life and social life, which includes giving back to the community, chatting with community volunteers helps me to figure out ways, even the smallest of ways, I can give back.
I’ve hoped to feature the folks who make up the Madison Byways group a number of times. This spotlight is a feature on the group itself, working to make safe and beautiful trails for all to use. I’ve been told a key player to the group’s success is Sandra Lott – be on the lookout for a hopeful feature with her once the snow melts.
Madison Byways recently completed a walking path from the Antelope Meadows subdivision to Ennis, via easements with local property owners, and with help from the Madison Ranger District. They replaced an old railroad grade with a safe walking path to school and the rest of the community. Access was made possible thanks to the Watson, Lukas, Stapp, Shirley, Fletcher, Plante, Finley, Doney, White, Roberts and Gentry families, as well as countless others who provided service afternoons for clearing trail, cutting steps, planting posts and signs for the newly developed Sandy Trail.
Thanks to Madison Byways, and collaborative partners, for giving to the community and to the neighborhood.
