Rain can’t stop fall fashion

Plain Jane’s, Right Angles host first annual fall fashion show

ENNIS—Main Street Mingle looked a little different this month on Friday, August 24: for the first time ever, it included a fashion show that allowed visitors to see some of the newest looks at Plain Jane’s.

The event also showcased some of the many art pieces available at Right Angles Framing Gallery, one of the co-hosts of Main Street Mingle. Friday’s fashion show featured fifteen outfits modeled by five local women and drew a crowd that blew all other mingles out of the water.

“Usually we get maybe 10 or 12 people,” says Mary Rasmussen, who brought the event together with the help of Plain Jane’s owners Cindy McKitrick and Libby Doggett-Nevin. “We had 70 or 80 people respond that they were coming.”

Even that estimate was low: Friday’s event drew around 100 people from the community, despite thunder rumbles and rain showers.

“We wanted to make it something special and fun for the community,” says Rasmussen. “We set up a red carpet for the models, we chose outfits that looked great on them and that they felt good in.”

Attendees drank champagne and rated their favorite outfits at the show, then hung around to talk to models, artists and the event’s organizers. Three artists showcased their pieces in the show as well, including Patsy Eckert and Jahnna France.
