Spring runoff making a splash in Madison County
Rolling runoff from Virginia City hill on Sunday was captured on video by Madison County Emergency Management and Fire Warden Dustin Tetrault, who said more precipitation was to be expected over the following 24 hours, causing small stream flooding on both Moores Creek in Ennis and Daylight Creek in Virginia City.
“We were able to divert a bunch off Moores Creek down an irrigation ditch and it will stay open for a while to mitigate any higher flows,” said Tetrault. “We did sandbag a couple spots and dug a small diversion in a spot but now homes have been affected. Daylight Creek in Virginia City has also been flowing high and has gone over Cover Street at Montana Highway 287 a couple times but has not affected any homes.”
Tetrault said sandbags are available and if any homes are threatened to call Madison County Dispatch at 843-5301 for assistance.
