Something for everyone

After a 35-day government shutdown at the end of 2019, Congress approved a spending package to fund the federal government for the next fiscal year. Part of this package included $1.38 million for Wildlife Services (WS) to hire employees responsible for nonlethally reducing conflict between predators and livestock in 12 states.

About 700 grizzly bears live in the Yellowstone ecosystem. Bears have been known to prey on livestock. (K. Moen)

Coexisting with carnivores

MADISON COUNTY—Over the past decade, Montana has become the home of a conflict few places in the United States see: protecting and fostering agricultural interests while at the same time protecting threatened carnivore species, most centrally wolves and grizzly bears.
