Sheridan's Christ Episcopal celebrating a birthday, window repair, dress up

SHERIDAN – Christ Episcopal Church, located on Main Street in Sheridan, is celebrating Pentecost and the creation of the Christian church and kicking off a campaign to restore the church’s historic stained glass windows on Sunday, May 20.

The church is hosting a cake and light refreshment event in the Fellowship Hall, behind the church, beginning at 11:30 a.m. and following the 10 a.m. worship service at the church.

All are welcome to attend this event.

The church’s windows are historic and quite beautiful, according to Darlene Tussing, church member. The windows date back to 1896, when the historic church was constructed and are an important and historical landmark for the town of Sheridan.

The congregation removed and repaired the church’s Rose window, the largest of its 31 total stained glass windows, prior to a storm last August. This window was repaired By Willett Hauser, Co. an architectural glass firm.

The church is working to raise funds to work on the other windows that are in need of repairs, several have deteriorated with age, breaks in the lead solder joints, cracked windows and rebar are a concern.

In honor of the 1896 church and Victoria Day, celebrated on May 21, the church is also encouraging a little dress up, dressing in Victorian-era styles.
